Above the Abyss

Zhang Lanpo Solo Exhibition
2025.12.10 - 2026.02.15

Above the Abyss
The abyss is a depth without end.
To float is neither to rise nor to fall.
and truth has yet to settle.

Zhang Lanpo places his images in a world that never fully descends — fragments drifting above a dark, viscous ground, surfacing and sinking through layers of time, memory, and death.

He does not restore history; he disassembles it.
Sacred forms merge with weapons, nerves become thorned crowns,
ruins coil with organs, and divinity entangles with violence.
Meaning fractures. Scale collapses.

What remains are not allegories but remnants — not illusions, but wounds.
Violent scepters, sacrificial bloodlines, the hollowed shell of heroism:
pulled apart, stretched, knotted, pressing slowly against the viewer’s gaze.

To float above the abyss is the position he chooses — and perhaps the position we share.
A threshold without ascent or escape: viscous, weightless, unresolved.

Here, no truth is spoken.
Only images remain, waiting for the gaze that completes them.
